India’s celebration of Urdu Culture- Jashn-e-Rekhta

Jashn-e-Rekhta is a festival that celebrates the Urdu culture through literature, art, food and a lot more. Even if you know nothing about Urdu, this is the place you should head to. The vibe, energy and simply the way the festival is organized, is an experience of a lifetime. The festival is held for three days during 8th to 10th December and there is a lot to look forward to. It is organized in Delhi and aims to inspire, engage and enlighten the audience about the uniqueness of the Urdu culture. It celebrates the spirit of the language and has had a record of 85,000 attendees in 2016.

If you are in Delhi or visiting Delhi in December, this is a festival you should not miss out on. There have been performances by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan as well as Bangash Brothers which drew large audiences. There is also mouthwatering Kashmiri food to keep you full. Jashn-e-rekhta is for the poets, the singers, bookworms, foodies and artists who love language and culture. It is a festival for every individual who has been intrigued by the Urdu language and wants a sneak peak into the culture. You can either choose to attend a musical performance or a reading of Faiz’s poetry or you could choose to spend your evening listening to the Bangash Brothers. What’s more? Aspiring poets get to perform too! There are drawing competitions for children and panel discussions for adults.

This celebration brings the best stalwarts on stage to perform their poetry, music or to act. Apart from satiating your hunger for art and food, the festival will give you a glimpse into the beautiful world of regional cinema, the traditional Urdu handicrafts and Kashmiri delicacies. Celebrities like Prasoon Joshi, Prem Chopra, Sharmila Tagore and Saurabh Shukla in addition to a 100 other writers, artists and poets will be attending this year.

There is free entry to this festival and it is held at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium. If you are in Delhi, do not miss out on the three days of absolute fun, energy and delicious food. If you are not, head to Delhi and you will take home some memorable experiences in the three days.
